Newcastle United Secure Major Summer Signing with Arrival of Anthony Elanga

Newcastle United have completed their second acquisition of the summer transfer window, securing the high-profile signing of Anthony Elanga. Following the earlier addition of Antonio Cordero, the arrival of Elanga represents the club’s most significant move to date in this window.

Elanga, who enjoyed a standout season with Nottingham Forest—registering six goals and 12 assists across all competitions—will now join an exciting attacking trio alongside fellow Swede Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon. The 22-year-old’s pace and creativity are expected to enhance an already dynamic frontline.

Speaking on Elanga’s arrival, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe expressed his enthusiasm:

“He is an exciting talent with attributes that make him a unique attacking threat. His pace, energy and ability to create and score goals will strengthen us and complement the way we want to play. Anthony is hungry to develop even further with us and to achieve success here, and we’re all looking forward to working with him.”

Despite investing approximately £55 million in bolstering their attack, Newcastle’s recruitment drive appears far from over. Reports suggest that the club’s ownership group, PIF, is still pursuing additional reinforcements. Notably, the Magpies have been linked with Italian centre-back Giorgio Scalvini, as well as long-term goalkeeping target James Trafford.

Additionally, fresh speculation suggests Newcastle are actively pursuing another attacking option. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the club has submitted a bid exceeding €70 million (£61 million) for French striker Hugo Ekitike, currently with Eintracht Frankfurt. The Magpies appear to be leading the race ahead of Premier League rivals Liverpool and Chelsea.

Should the transfer materialize, Ekitike would form a formidable partnership with Alexander Isak, further strengthening Newcastle’s offensive arsenal. Romano also notes that Newcastle are preparing to open contract extension talks with Isak, though a failure to reach an agreement could put the club in a challenging position next summer, potentially preparing for a 2026 exit.

While Ekitike’s previous campaign saw him underperform his expected goals tally, maintaining Isak in the squad would provide stability and mitigate concerns over consistency in front of goal.

Former Reims manager Oscar Garcia once referred to Ekitike as a “special” talent—a label that now seems prophetic as Newcastle move to assemble one of the most potent attacking lineups in the Premier League.

“There is something very special about him. He’s young, and he has the quality to become a very good player. He’s a young man with a lot of quality but also a lot to improve on, but he works hard in training.”
